Quin Ivy, a local disc jockey, opened Nor-Ala Studio (later call Quinvy Studio) in Sheffield in 1965. The most famous song recorded at the studio was Percy Sledge’s “When a Man Loves a Woman.” With proceeds from the hit song, Ivy constructed a new studio in 1968. It was sold to David Johnson in 1973 and renamed Broadway Sound Studio. Sledge continued to record here. Others who also recorded at the studio included Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Outlaws and Swamp Dogg. The studio is no longer in operation.
