BUD McGUIRE

Bud McGuire is a musician, songwriter, producer, music publisher, and the owner of Shoals-based McGuire Productions. He grew up in Hamilton, Alabama, playing piano in the Baptist church where his father was a minister, and toured as a teenager with gospel group the Sego Brothers & Naomi. He decided to pursue a career in music after a friend invited him to attend a recording session in Nashville. He apprenticed under Rick Hall at FAME Studios, and signed his first publishing deal with Hall before returning to Nashville, where he found success as a songwriter and producer. He wrote two chart-topping hits for Kenny Rogers and Eddy Raven, and has also written songs for Hank Williams, Jr., Tammy Wynette, George Jones, Clarence Carter, Jerry Reed, Randy Travis, and Reba McEntire. In the 1990s, McGuire bought Wishbone Recording Studio in Muscle Shoals, restoring and reopening the facility, and specializing in the production of commercial jingles.
