The Princess Theatre began as a livery stable in 1887 and became a vaudeville and silent-film hall in 1919 and then an Art Deco-style movie theater in 1941. Since 1983, the theater, located in the New Decatur/Albany Historic District, has been a performing-arts center. The 677-seat theater presents international entertainers and national tours of Broadway musicals as well as performances by local talent. Local performing groups present children’s theater, choral concerts, musicals and theater.

Performances feature country, folk, gospel, blues and rock ‘n’ roll by professional and local performers. The Roxy Theatre cost $200,000 to build and operated as a movie theater from 1949 and until 1976. Since acquiring the building in 1987, the Franklin County Arts and Humanities Council has worked for the theater’s restoration.
